A great story from the Ellsworth American about how our partners at Family Futures Downeast, Community Caring Collaborative and others are using a two-generation approach to transform lives in Downeast Maine.
Family Futures Downeast is one of several programs supported by the John T. Gorman Foundation in Maine that apply the 2 Gen approach. Officials with the foundation say they have seen how beneficial the approach is to families and want to uplift the programs utilizing it.
“So many of our practices and policies when we are trying to support families are either solely dedicated to the children or solely dedicated to the parents,” said the foundation’s President and CEO Nicole Witherbee. “Without a recognition that parents are more likely to do well if they know that their child will benefit from that, or children will do better when their parents have the tools and resources that they need.”
