James collaborates with colleagues to support and maintain the Foundation’s grantmaking processes and database. He also supports the organization’s programs by developing dashboards, data visualizations, and improved data practices.
Prior to joining the Foundation, James worked as a Project Associate at the Mitchell Institute, where he managed data collection and analysis to enhance and inform the organization’s decision-making. In addition, he has served as board President of Speak About It, which uses theater and dialogue to teach about consent and healthy relationships. He has also volunteered with PortFringe, a celebration of creative expression, artistic activism, cultural connections, and community building (for which he and his partner were named Maine Magazine’s Mainers of the Year in 2022).
James holds a B.A. from Muhlenberg College and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Policy, Planning, and Management at the Muskie School at the University of Southern Maine. He lives in Portland with his partner, Mackenzie, and his son, Simon.
