NEWS & PRESS

Fall ’19 Foundation News of Note

UPDATED RESOURCES: The Foundation maintains a frequently updated library of resources with the latest data, reports, and findings on our priority areas: young children, older youth, families and seniors. Take a look here at the latest.

IN THE NEWS: Watch a great interview with Portland Public Library’s new residential social worker, a position supported through a Direct Services Grant to serve library patrons in need.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: The Foundation has joined other organizations to establish the Maine Census Outreach Fund 2020, an initiative to increase Census participation in Maine communities that are at risk of being undercounted. The Fund has put out an RFP for organizations to partner in this work. Proposals are due Friday, Nov 8. Go here for more information and to download the RFP.

TRANSITIONS: Following the latest addition to her growing family—a beautiful baby girl—former Senior Program Associate Kaylene Mitchell has changed roles to become an independent consultant focused on Results Based Leadership. The Foundation is excited that Kaylene will stay on as co-faculty of the John T. Gorman Fellowship so she can continue applying her considerable expertise (and great sense of humor) in support of our Fellows and their work.

INSPIRING: Over the summer, our Fellows had a chance to meet with Public Welfare Foundation President Candice Jones, a national leader in the area of juvenile justice, and hear about how focusing on results has helped drive her work and build stronger partnerships. Thank you for coming to Maine, Candice!

SUMMER TRAVELS: It was a busy summer for Foundation staff as they traveled across the state, and beyond, to meet with our partners and connect with national networks. Here’s an August snapshot of Chief Program Officer Nicole Witherbee with members of the Maine Children’s Cabinet and other partners at the Aspen Institute’s Early Childhood Development and Health Forum.
