Core Funding Strategy
Years of research shows that the future success of children is inextricably connected to the current success of their parents. As such, we invest in and promote two generation strategies aimed at addressing the needs of children and adults in the same family – simultaneously. We support comprehensive pilots, provide access to national technical assistance and work with parents, policy makers and practitioners to develop policy reforms that can help “scale up” two-generation work in Maine.
In addition, the Foundation released a policy brief in 2020 – The Two-Generation Approach: Recommendations for Bridging Practice and Policy – which makes a number of recommendations for strengthening state policies and systems. The report also includes an overview of the two-generation model, summaries of the different ways it has been applied in Maine, recent policy developments, and personal testimonials from Maine parents on what two-generation programming has meant for their families.
