Research finds that expanding tax credits would provide strong support for rural areas

Researchers at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimated the potential impact of temporarily expanding both the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The considered expansion would make the Child Tax Credit available to low-income families who currently do not receive the credit, or who only receive partial credit, because of too-low household earnings. The researchers then considered expanding the EITC to childless adults, who receive far smaller credits than adults with children. Authors find that these expansions would benefit approximately 10.4 million rural residents providing much-needed support to these families, as well as cost-effective economic stimulus. #rural
