New England service workers face high risk of infection or job loss

New research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston shows that one in five New England workers has a job in a non-health-care service industry—the kinds of jobs that are likely to be classified as essential, or to be laid off during the #COVID-19 pandemic. These workers are disproportionately poor and Hispanic, leading the authors to suggest that “the challenges posed by the pandemic exacerbate existing and long-standing inequalities.” #workforce
