While the season has brought us welcomed warmer weather and longer days, that hasn’t slowed the pace of good work being done by our grantees and partners throughout Maine. Similarly, it’s been a busy and exciting couple of months here at the John T. Gorman Foundation.
In May, we joined many others in cheering the news that Lewiston would receive a historic and potentially transformational federal investment in its Tree Streets Neighborhood. More recently, we proudly marked the Foundation’s 25th anniversary with a retrospective on our work and a tribute to our founder, Tom Gorman. And last month, after a year’s hiatus, we opened the application period for our next cohort of John T. Gorman Fellows.
In our Summer Newsletter, you can learn more about these events and several others, including the launch of the Lewiston Youth Film Institute; and read about some of the challenges and opportunities associated with rebuilding Maine’s child care system, which is so critical to the future of our kids, families and communities. With urgency and excitement, each topic has energized us and reminds us of the important work that lies ahead.
Still, as busy as these days have been for all of you working to make life better for vulnerable Mainers, I hope you’re all able to take some time this summer to rest, recover, and enjoy all that our state has to offer.
