Winter 2016 Newsletter

We’re pleased to share with you the Winter Edition of the John T. Gorman Foundation’s quarterly Newsletter, which offers a snapshot of some great work being done by our partners around the state. In this edition, you’ll find summary findings from a new Foundation-commissioned research report on the well-being of Maine seniors and information about how we’re responding to the needs identified in the report.

On the kids and families front, you can learn about a terrific partnership between Pine Tree Legal and St. Mary’s Health System, in Lewiston, which is taking on an issue that has been so prominent in our national news of late: childhood lead poisoning. We also highlight a very successful family strengthening effort, Safe Families for Children, which helps families in crisis by providing their children with a homelike environment while their parents work towards stability.

For folks interested in learning about some important resources to increase family economic stability, this edition of the Newsletter also offers information on three different matched savings programs that the Foundation funds, each designed to help a different group of hard-working Mainers reach their goals. We’re proud to support these efforts aimed at improving the lives of disadvantaged people in Maine.
